  1. Furniture drawers make convenient containers to hold small and delicate items. Wrap the entire drawer in bubble wrap or newspaper.
  2. Always remember to completely fill boxes when packing small items, and stuff open areas with plain newspaper or bubble wrap to prevent movement and collapsing when being transported or stacked.
  3. It is unsafe to store anything combustible (such as paint and chemicals) or perishable (such as food that is not permanently sealed).
  4. In order to store lawn and garden equipment, drain any fluids to avoid corrosive damage and fire hazard.
  5. Use trashcans to store lawn and garden tools.
  6. Always use high quality locks on your unit. Lone Star Self Storage sells locks on-site. Ask the Facilities Manager for details.
  7. When storing delicate heirlooms, use specially constructed boxes, such as wardrobe boxes, and utilize dehumidifiers to prevent mildew build up.
  8. Store furniture carefully on boards or pallets.
  9. Cover mattresses and store them flat on level surfaces.
  10. Maximize space by storing kitchen items like pots and pans in large appliances, such as stoves or refrigerators.
  11. Break down items (such as table legs) and store large furniture (like tabletops and sofas) on end to save space.
  12. Use protective covers, and treat wood surfaces before storing.
  13. When storing business files, label all boxes and construct aisles so files are easily seen and accessible.
  14. Clean furniture, boxes and the storage unit of all food and perishables.
